Types of Fades: Low, Mid, High, Skin & Burst

Every fade is defined by where the blend starts and how short it goes. Here's the quick field guide.

Home/Guides/Types of Fades: Low, Mid, High, Skin & Burst

Low fade

The blend starts just above the ears — subtle and versatile, the safest, most flattering option.

Mid fade

Starts around the temples — balanced contrast and the most popular all-purpose choice.

High fade

Starts up near the crown — maximum contrast and the boldest look, showing off length on top.

Skin (bald) fade

Any fade taken all the way down to bare skin for the sharpest possible finish.

Burst fade

Curves around the ear in a semicircle, leaving length at the back — the signature for mullets, mohawks and Edgars.
